Lake Whitney Area Food Bank

11/5/20 Annual Food Drive Nov 20, 2020

"Our Daily Bread" is the official name of the Whitney Food Bank. We provide three programs to serve our clients - a monthly program, a weekend students program, and a summer students program.

For more information, see the Whitney Food Bank website.

Monthly Program

Food Bank Volunteers

The Whitney Food Bank provides food for almost 700 household members each month. Our doors are open to anyone who can provide a picture ID and proof of residence. Clients do not have to receive food stamps to be eligible.

The Food Bank Director determines an adequate amount of food items to distribute to each household based on family size and needs. Most clients receive food items every 30 days to provide for one week's worth of meals for the month.

Whitney Food Bank is open three days a week to distribute food. On a typical day, 30 families with 75 family members will receive 1,700 pounds of food from the Food Bank.  At the end of the month, over 40 volunteers will have worked almost 500 hours, serving 300 families with almost 700 family members and providing over 17,000 pounds of food.

Weekend Students Program

During the school year, qualifying students are part of our "Backpack" program. Each Friday those designated students receive a backpack from the school counselor that is filled with canned goods containing food for breakfast and lunch for that weekend. Backpacks are returned to the school counselor the following Monday to be filled again before the next weekend.

11/05/20 Annual Food Drive Nov 20, 2020

As families plan to come together for holiday meals, it's a perfect time to think about those in our community who are hungry. This is especially true in an anxiety-filled year when so many are struggling physically and financially.

November is Food for Families Month, a special month of giving to the food bank ministry of Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance. All November donations will be counted toward the Lake Whitney Food Bank goal of 60,000 pounds, but the official campaign day is Friday, November 20th.

Connie Stahl, Our Daily Bread Food Bank director commented, "The Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance is very grateful for the support we receive from our community and business leaders. Their contributions enable us to feed those who would truly go hungry otherwise."

Any donation is appreciated, but the following non-perishable food products are most needed - boxed Idaho mashed potatoes, cereal, hamburger helper, spaghetti and macaroni and cheese, canned green beans, corn, peas, spaghetti sauce, chili, pork and beans, tuna, chicken, peaches, fruit cocktail and pears, canned chicken noodle, tomato and vegetable soup. Please - no glass containers!

Food for Families is a joint annual project for the Longhorn Council, Boy Scouts of America, H.E.B. Grocery Company and KWTX News 10. KWTX will be televising some of the donations here during the day. DONATIONS STAY IN OUR COMMUNITY.

The food bank budget for 2021 will be determined by the amount raised. Any monetary donations are calculated at 2.5 pounds for each dollar.

Our community is 67% economically disadvantaged. The LWMA food bank typically feeds 250 - 300 families each month. In 2019 Our Daily Bread served 7,910 family members who might not have food otherwise.

The food bank operates completely through donations and volunteers. No one is paid. All donations go directly to providing for those in need. Be a part of this tradition and help your Lake Whitney neighbors in this extraordinary year.

You make the difference. Donations may be mailed to Our Daily Bread c/o Lake Whitney Ministerial Alliance, P.O. Box 1502, Whitney, Texas 76692 or online at You may also drop off a check at the food bank and get a receipt for tax deduction.
